Outstanding Praise for our 2014 Silver Stag Cabernet Sauvignon!

We know the 2014 vintage of our Silver Stag Cabernet Sauvignon is a keeper and it's great to see the critics agree!

We are so proud to annouce that this wine was rated 98 points along with a Double Gold and a Best of Class of Region at this year's 2017 California State Fair Wine Competition. We look forward to seeing how this wine continues to impress as it ages while enjoying it in our glass now, too!

2016 Harvest Update

What wonderful weather to enjoy this time of year. The afternoons are about mid 70”s and the evenings drop to about mid 50”s. This is great for sitting on the porch and having a glass of wine but not doing much for our grapes. The cooler weather has slowed the ripening process. That’s good for a longer hang time, richer and more intense flavor development but moves the potential harvest date out two to three weeks. We generally pick between 24.5 – 26 brix sugars. We are currently at 10.7 brix sugar and will look for a late September early October harvest. More to come as we get closer.

Cheers,

Harry and Ellen

Wine Enthusiast Awards 90 Point Score To Silver Stag's 2013 Chardonnay

This delicate wine exudes swathes of lemon chiffon and white flowers, offering similar experiences on the palate. Staying light in oak, it has texture and body to spare, without ever overpowering, making for a food-friendly, versatile wine. - Virginia Boone, Wine Enthusiast (12/1/2015)

The Stag Horn - Summer 2014

You have probably already heard that we are off to another great year. We have been blessed with two remarkable vintages in 2012 and 2013. We are seeing a great “set” and wonderful gifts given by “mother nature” in weather and great growing conditions so far this year. But this was not without its challenges. 2014 began with a very mild winter with less rainfall and average temperatures. So this is the starting point with lots of time left in the season for “Mother Nature” to offer a challenge or two before we reach the vintage. We will send another update as we approach harvest.

Ellen and I are very excited with the upcoming release of our 2012 Silver Stag Cabernet Sauvignon…wow what a vintage, what a wine!! This wine is complex, concentrated, lush, and rich in flavor and style displaying much of what Coombsville hillside fruit is all about. With over 50 years in this wonderful industry we rarely see such a vintage as abundant, expressive, and classic in every way as 2012.

WINEMAKER NOTES

Rich, elegant, and intense flavors of cassis, blackberry, blueberry, cedar box, tobacco leaf, and dark chocolate on the palate The finish is long & elegant with refined tannins that coat the mouth with seductive layered flavors of black fruit, spice & a touch of mocha.

Soon to come, the inaugural release of 2012 Silver Stag Reserve Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon coming in early 2015.  More about that Next time.

Cheers,

The Stag Horn - Winter 2013

SPECTACULAR HAND CRAFTED 2012

Rare are times when great things are repeated back to back, but after a fabulous 2012 vintage, 2013 has done just that. Every year as we near harvest, we dance with Mother Nature. Being in the Coombsville appellation of Napa, we are at the base of Mt. George and experience a slightly cooler microclimate, which develops smaller berries with greater skin-to-juice ratio. That is a good thing with more intensity, color, character, and flavor. As the weather changes with shorter days and colder nights (which is kind of our “horns of a dilemma”), we wait a little bit longer for the perfect balance of sugar, acid and flavor in our grapes. We did and 2013 will be another stunning tear well worth the wait until the release in 2015.

RESERVE SILVER STAG CABERNET SAUVIGNON

We anticipate releasing our 2012 Silver Stag Cabernet Sauvignon in the fall of 2014. It is rich and elegant with concentrated flavors of cassis, blueberries, blackberries, dark chocolate, superb mid-palate flavors, and a long, balanced finish. So special is the 2012 vintage that we will be offering for the first time a Reserve Silver Stag Cabernet Sauvignon releasing in 2015.

The Parsley family would like to thank you for your interest in Silver Stag wines and for your continued support.

With warmest holiday wishes,
Harry and Ellen Parsley

The Stag Horn - Spring 2013

The fabulous harvest of 2012, abundant quantity and superb quality which I am sure will set a new high mark in rating vintages, is finally in barrel resting.

The 2013 year has begun with beautiful but dry weather. We saw bud break on March 24th for Petite Verdot and April 4th for Cabernet Sauvignon. We irrigated for the first time this year on May 1st, earliest record for us! When you walk a vineyard you see Mother Nature’s promise of things to come, of course we don’t know what things, but all looks great right now. The vines are growing at about 2 inches per day which is stunning and most amazing to watch regardless how many times you have seen it. In our case they may have grown even faster due to Bottle Rock 2013’s music setting the pace wafting over the walls at the Napa Valley Fairgrounds.

The valley is beautiful right now and one of the most fun times to visit with lighter crowds and more opportunity to visit this “magical place.”

AUCTION NAPA VALLEY 2013

WOW!! Consumer tickets to this year's “Auction Napa Valley” have sold out in record time. Now that guests have registered for the world's must-attend “live” wine auction , whether you have a ticket or not ,there still remains a great opportunity ……….E Auction 2013. You can participate from anywhere in the world , sitting at a bistro in Paris, gondola in Venice, or the Library of Congress in Washington DC……..so make sure to check out the great E-Auctions lots, especially#437 Silver Stag’s Odd Man Out!! Bidding starts May 26th @ www.auctionnapavalley.org

Enjoy the Spring,
Harry and Ellen Parsley

The Stag Horn - Winter 2012

SPECTACULAR

Wholly Molly what a year!!  Unlike the 2011 vintage, Mother Nature was generous in every way throughout the 2012 season. The weather at bud break was gentle and warm beginning in early April with Petite Verdot on April 5th and Cabernet Sauvignon on Easter Sunday. Perfect weather prevailed from May through September ranging between 70-85 degrees. We always get a couple of bumps with triple digits in the summer BUT this year …very little. !! Our 2012 growing season and harvest can best be summed up in a single word SPECTACULAR!!! !!

We harvested about a week earlier than most years. The harvest was abundant following two years of very modest crops. The fruit, oh my gosh, is simply gorgeous, rich, plump and juicy, with complex character and concentrated flavors. We are just “barreling down” to begin the gentle introduction of oak aging.

The first taste as the 2012 Silver Stag goes into barrel is: SPECTACULAR!!
So special is this vintage that we plan to make a small lot [100-150 cases] of our first “Coombsville Reserve” Silver Stag Cabernet Sauvignon; release early 2015. We’ll keep you updated with its progress.

We will send you another update when everything has quieted down a bit and we have moved this vintage to barrel.

With warmest wishes,
Harry and Ellen Parsley
