2002 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa (Tulocay)
In Stock
Another exceptional vintage from the Tulocay area! The weather during the second half of the 2002 growing season was warm, sunny, and typical of Napa. A week long heat wave in July extended veraison—the period when the fruit changes from green to red—and resulted in some uneven ripening. To ensure the very highest quality, we walked the vineyard removing any green berries by hand and dropping whole clusters to concentrate flavor in the remaining fruit. Ripening through the balance of the year unfolded perfectly, allowing the fruit on the vine to develop into what would become a rich and expressive Cabernet Sauvignon in the bottle. The difference is in the details, and passion defines every step of our process from vineyard to cellar. Whether it's a cold soak, extended maceration or our complex barrel program, we don't believe in cutting corners and do everything possible to produce the finest expression of our vineyard—a superb Cabernet Sauvignon.
A deep shade of garnet, the wine's saturated color reflects its opulent nature. A bewitching and complex nose offers notes of blueberry, blackberry, licorice, cedar, and black pepper. Elegantly balanced, the mouth exudes rich flavors of coffee, blueberry, and clove. An impressively long finish oozes with the essence of black pepper, licorice, and berries.
